For May, we’re reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver, her husband Steven L. Hopp, and their daughters Camille and Lily. It chronicles their year of eating only locally sourced food, growing their own, or forgoing it entirely. It's a blend of memoir, journalistic investigation, and practical guide, exploring the environmental, social, and personal benefits of a local food system and has become a classic in the farm-to-table movement. The book details their journey from Arizona to a farm in southern Appalachia, covering their successes, challenges, and discoveries about food production, cooking, and community. Kingsolver is a masterful writer and we’re really excited to read and talk about this one!
